Michael Kapilidis is one of the most sought after Greek session musicians. During his 27-year career as a professional drummer he has collaborated both in the studio as well as in live gigs, with most major pop, folk and jazz artists of the country. He is performing over 180 shows a year for over two decades now and has appeared in over 100 major label recordings.

His 12-year tenure with platinum selling singer/songwriter, Alkinoos Ioannides. This successful collaboration can be best summed up in the double-live LP “Ektos Topou kai Hronou”(2000). This record has achieved legendary status amongst both critics and fans while it is considered to be a major influence for a large part of the drumming community in Greece.
Multi-national touring with the platinum selling folk singer Eleftheria Arvanitaki including performances in Mexico, SouthAfrica, Ukraine, Finland, UK, Germany and Spain amongst other countries.
Over two years of extensive touring both nationally and abroad with Greece’s no.1 pop-star, Anna Vissi.
Session work with the multi-platinum selling artists: Giorgos Dalaras, Sakis Rouvas, Dimitra Galani,Αlkistis Protopsalti, Kostas Tournas, Sokratis Malamas, Nikos Portokaloglou, Nikos Papazoglou, Panos Mouzourakis,Elli Paspala and many others.
His current gig is with singer/songwriter Fivos Delivorias, playing dates to support the artists’ latest album “Kallithea”.
Apart from his session work, Michael has always stayed active in the local band scene, showing perfect adaptability while switching from the big venues to the smaller jazz and rock clubs.He has worked with the groups of Takis Barberis, Stavros Lantsias and David Lynch, among others.From 1999 until 2005 he was a member in one of the most revered alternative rock bands in Greece, Closer, with which he recorded and performed all over the country as well as the U.K.

A resident seat as the drummer in the most succesfull weekly jazz-rock gig/event in the city of Athens, The Deep Throat Sessions.
Datfunk Band, a unique contemporary hammond trio which performs all around the country, and have a residency in Athens’ most important jazz club at the moment, Afrikana, playing there every Sunday. They have also played dates in Holland and appeared at the Jazz Rally Festival in Duesseldorf, Germany.
Michael had also had the privilege to perform with international artists visiting Greece for live perrformances and clinics. German saxophonist Reiner Witzel, guitar virtuoso Paul Gilbert, European r&b act Tasha’s world, Warrior Soul’s Cory Clark, famed jazz singer JD Walter and blues legend Nick Gravenites are some of the names that stand out.
He is also an acclaimed teacher and clinician.He has been a member of the faculty at Lab Music Education,one of the country’s most prolific contemporary music institutions, for over ten years. He works with over 70 students each year in drum lessons, clinics, band workshops and as a career advisor.
Michael proudly endorses Vic Firth drumsticks and Porter&Davies drum monitoring systems. He plays Gretsch drums exclusively (a Brooklyn kit, and a late ’70’s- early ’80’s Usa Custom).
